Freud, Anna

(1895-1982)
   Psychoanalyst of Austrian origin. The daughter of Sigmund Freud, she was an elementary school teacher and later gravitated to the Vienna Psychoanalystic Society. She founded and edited the journal, The Psychoanalytic Study of the Child. Her most noted work was The Ego and the Mechanism of Defence. In 1943 she founded the Hampstead Clinics in Great Britain.
